How we spend our days is how we spend our life. Therefore, if you every day is felt with dread, your highly stressed all the time, you feel upset, and spend too much time in emotional turmoil, then you then you need to turn into yourself and spend time examining what you really want out of life.
The concept of self-care can at times seem slightly indulgent, but we need to take care of ourselves first before we are able to nurture other people. Step back and examine where you are right now, and understand what works for you and what does not work. What do you really enjoy doing in life? What makes you feel alive? What makes you feel really healthy & happy? What fills you with dread? What upsets you? Self-care is about getting to know you; it is not about what works for other people. Once you have a list of the things you really enjoy doing in life, start to add these things into your everyday life and enjoy every moment.
